There are some things that are essential for transforming a property into a home. A home should be a welcoming place – somewhere that you can enjoy spending time with family and friends.
Is it easy to achieve this transformation? In part, the key is to surround yourself with items that are personal to you. Such items help to stamp your own personality on a building, helping to convert it into a real home.
There’s another aspect to consider too. In recent times there has been an increasing amount of focus on style and fashion. Magazines, websites and television shows tell us that we can create an even better space in which to live.
More than that, we can also create a home that leaves a real impression on visitors. So how can we do that? How can we get the look that is suggested in the media?
There are a number of devices and decorating techniques that are often shown as being examples of good interior design. At the moment, for example, it seems popular to use feature walls in many rooms.
These are walls that are painted a bold colour, helping them to really stand out. The idea is that you create something that’s very memorable. One advantage of using them is that they are actually a relatively cheap home improvement.
What else might you consider? Many interior designers like the idea of bold creations that are decorative and also memorable. Modern electric wall fires are frequently being used, as much for their ability to look good as for their efficiency at heating.
The fact that they creating a moving flame effect means that they naturally attract attention. With prices falling and designs improving all the time, it’s not surprising that these modern electric fires are so popular.
They can create a great central focal point for any room, but they’re particularly effective in living rooms.
It’s worth experimenting with decorative effects, furniture and lighting in many rooms of your property.
Before you know it, you’ll have turned your house into a stylish home.

Radiators are seen by many home owners as a necessary evil. Although they can look ugly, what other alternatives are there if you’re looking to heat your home. You needn’t put up with them – think creatively and there are plenty of alternatives.
When you think about it, there is no doubt that radiators were a relatively recent addition to most homes. Many of us will have grown up in properties heated using open fires and maybe making use of back boilers.
It was only with the widespread emergence of central heating that we all saw the regular appearance of radiators. They were used to replace existing appliances and it’s not often expected that they should be installed in all newly built properties.
So what’s the problem with them? One significant factor for many is that they simply don’t look very nice. It’s hard to make them look particularly attractive when they are, after all, a somewhat obvious metallic object attached to a wall.
Another factor that many complain about is the fact that they take up space. You can’t freely place furniture and accessories around your home because you constantly find yourself having to avoid radiators.
You don’t, after all, want to limit the heat that is being provided to the room. By the same token, you wouldn’t want to damage a piece of furniture by placing it too close to the radiator.
Is it possible to simply limit these annoyances? There are various radiator covers on the market that can be used to help hide the presence of radiators in a room. Although useful, these can’t be good news in terms of heating efficiency.
They’re also not an almost amount of use in terms of freeing up space in the room. Surely there must be other solutions?
How about removing a radiator completely? That may sound a little drastic but it is an option that more and more people are looking to take. Removing a radiator means that you needn’t worry about having a nasty, ugly object in the corner of your room.
It also gives you the freedom to place furniture where ever you like. There is, however, one clear problem. If you remove the radiator then how do you deal with its primary task – heating the room?
The answer for many has been to look for alternatives, such as modern electric fires. If you’re lucky enough to have a chimney in your house, then a wood burning stove, or maybe a gas fire, could be used.
These alternatives look much better and can actually form a feature for your room. Is it efficient to use them in every room? Not necessarily, so you might consider making use of them to get rid of radiators in your most used spaces of the house.
Don’t settle for radiators – there are other options available to you.

If you live in a climate that’s typically hot and muggy all year long, the last thing you want to happen is have your central unit suddenly stop working. Purchasing, or upgrading, air conditioners is a task to be taken seriously and you should always make it a habit to compare brands and prices and the warranties involved before making your final decision. You want your new unit to last for many years, not suddenly need servicing after only a couple of months. By taking the time to compare the pros and cons of the different brands on the market, you will be able to find a top quality unit that will fit within your budget.
Your first step when starting your research into which air conditioner you’ll eventually choose is looking at what’s called the Seasonal Energy Efficient Rating for each brand. The higher the number, the higher the efficiency of the unit. Make sure that you examine the features that come with each brand. Many brands offer features that aren’t specifically necessary to the function of the unit and those will cause the cost to be higher in the end.
Believe it or not, when it comes to air conditioners you’ll need to check and see what kind of refrigerant is being used. Make sure that it’s Puron instead of Freon, which depletes the ozone. Puron is EPA approved and will not make your air conditioner obsolete after you purchase it. Another important feature to examine before deciding between brands is the parts and labor warranties. Everyone knows that these units can be expensive to fix if anything should happen and you will need to make sure that all the necessary parts and any labor involved in repairs is covered for at least 5 to 10 years.
And finally, the best thing you can do before making your purchase is to get a brand, whether it’s Mitsubishi or Amana, that’s Energy Star rated. Those brands that are not energy star rated will be considerably more expensive to operate than those brands that are rated. When you have a unit that’s energy star rated, it saves you hundreds, even thousands, of dollars a year on your electricity bill. A definite bonus if you live in a hot climate where you need to run your A/C continuously.
